EmberSol delivers MCS-certified Solar PV under ECO4 and self-funded, including flats above shops and hard-to-treat properties.
Get a QuoteEmberSol delivered a full ECO4 retrofit at 38a Woodside Road, Ketley, Telford — a flat above a commercial parade including the Ketley Shop and Blades & Fades. The property is a hard-to-treat flat above shops (FAS) with a pitched roof, presenting the challenge of installing Solar PV on a shared roof structure above commercial tenants. The EmberSol branded scaffolding hoarding is visible in the street-level photograph, with the completed Solar PV array visible on the roof behind.
The primary renewable measure was a 3.6kW Solar PV system comprising 8 black monocrystalline panels in a 2×4 configuration on the west-northwest facing pitched roof. The panels are connected via a Fox inverter with a dedicated DC isolator, generation meter, and AC isolator. A new consumer unit (QFS-MX12M, BS EN 61439-3) was installed with a dedicated B16 MCB for the Solar Inverter circuit, alongside RCBOs for all other circuits. The installation is MCS certified and G98/G99 compliant for connection to the distribution network.
The loft insulation was upgraded to 300mm Knauf mineral wool, replacing the heavily degraded original insulation documented in the pre-works survey photographs ( November 2025). The degraded insulation is clearly visible across the full loft floor width in both survey photographs. High-retention Electric Storage Heaters (ESH) were installed to replace the previous inefficient direct-acting electric heaters — two units are documented: a tall storage heater in the bedroom and a panel heater with digital controls. Decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (DMEV) was installed to maintain healthy indoor air quality.
The project demonstrates EmberSol's capability to deliver multi-measure ECO4 retrofits in hard-to-treat flat above shops properties, combining Solar PV, ESH, loft insulation, and ventilation under a single coordinated programme with full PAS 2030, MCS, and TrustMark compliance.
